Job Title: Seasonal Farm Hand & Delivery Driver

Opening Date: 12/2/2017 (position to start in January, 2018)

Overview
Little Wild Things City Farm is looking for someone enthusiastic about growing local food with a strong interest in sustainable agriculture to start in this position in January, 2018. This position will support our indoor microgreen production, outdoor farm production, assist with weekly deliveries, with potential to grow with us and take on more responsibility over time. This position will support the work of the entire team and report to the Director of Operations. Work is carried out in an indoor microgreen farm and at an outdoor ¼ acre plot in the Bloomingdale & Edgewood neighborhoods of Washington, DC. Individual tasks may be physically demanding and may include long hours doing any of the following:

  • Cleaning, including washing trays and sanitizing equipment
  • Seeding, planting, harvesting, or packing orders
  • Lifting and moving heavy objects 
  • Long periods standing or working on concrete and in outdoor conditions, including rain, heat, and cold
  • Delivering produce to customers across the District of Columbia

The right candidate will demonstrate an attention to detail, creativity, honesty, eagerness to learn, and will be enthusiastic about working in an entrepreneurial, fast paced environment. Likewise, s/he will not be deterred by the responsibility of completing routine and very physical tasks such as cleaning or weeding. Preferred, but not required qualifications include: experience working on an organic or Certified Naturally Grown farm, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification, experience in the restaurant industry, experience making deliveries, experience working for an early-stage start-up, and/or web development, photography, or social media skills.

Preference will be given to candidates with their own car to travel between the operation’s multiple locations, sometimes transporting veggies and tools. Deliveries will be made in the company vehicle. Candidate must be able to demonstrate a clean driving record.

Compensation & Hours
Pay is $12.50/hour and the position is part-time (~15-30 hrs/week). This position is seasonal and work may not be available year-round. Preferred hours of work are Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays between 6:30am-4pm with potential to take on additional hours over time.
